I want to show you how to breathe to thrive by making every breath count for better health and longevity. Breathing to thrive, means breathing to feed your master controller or all body functions – your brain. Your brain needs 3 things to survive and function - glucose, activation, and oxygen.

While we obsess over the foods that we eat and exercises, we forget to look improve our breathing. That is: the frequency, depth, effort and way we breathe to send oxygen to our tissues and especially our brain. 

Did You Know that Mouth Breathing has a Negative Impact on Your Health?

• Mouth breathing can impact your brain structure and concentration?

• Untreated sleep apnea with mouth breathing can result in reducing the brain white matter. This is important as these changes are linked to impairments of cognition, mood and daytime alertness (Castronovo et al., 2014).

• Mouth breathing adults are more likely to experience sleep disordered breathing, fatigue, decreased productivity and poorer quality of life than those who nasal- breathe (Lunn & Craig, 2011).

• Mouth breathing greatly impacts on the mental and physical health of children. It can be linked restriction of the lower airways, poor quality of sleep, reduced cognitive functioning and lower quality of life (Borres, 1998).

• Children who don’t sleep well are commonly misdiagnosed with ADHD due to poor concentration, hyperactivity, and impulsive behaviors (Borres, 1998).

• Optimal posture supports more efficient diaphragmatic breathing.

• Anxiety Depression and Excessive Stress are linked to upper chest, rapid shallow and mouth breathing. This is your fight and flight system. Control the breathing and so you gain more control over your mental state.

• Chest breathing takes more energy and is linked to back neck and shoulder pain.
