Manual Lymphatic Drainage is a very light massage that aims to stimulate the movement of lymphatic fluid using, techniques to stimulate the receptors in the skin such as; Stationary circles, Scooping, Pumping Techniques, Rotary technique (two hands) and Thumb circles.
Lymph is the fluid that bathes the tissues of the body and helps to remove larger molecules that are unable to be dealt with by the blood and circulatory system. Dr Vodder compared the lymphatic system to a sewage system, collecting waste and carrying it to organs that can then dispose of it.
Lymph also supplies the tissues with life giving nutrients through a system of vessels similar but not quite the same as the circulatory system. Manual Lymphatic Drainage is a healthy, natural, painless and effective way to stimulate the movement and therefore the renewal of the lymph, activation of the circulation and stimulation of cell activity. It is helpful when applied to any area of the body.
